Castleford Bus Station double nominated
Castleford Bus Station has been shortlisted for the prestigious CIOB Committed to Construction Awards for the Humber and West Yorkshire Regions. The £6 million investment in the new eleven-stand bus station, which opened to the public in February 2015, has meant passengers and staff now benefit from fantastic facilities and a pleasant, safe environment providing transport links throughout West Yorkshire.
The project has been shortlisted in the categories of both Quality and Excellence and Project of the Year 2015.

Rider Hunt are appointed as the Trust Cost Advisor for Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust on their first P21+ scheme providing a 15 bed dementia unit at the Carleton Clinic, Carlisle.
This £2.6 million pound investment by the Trust is to help the county tackle a so-called “dementia time-bomb”
The project is a part new build extension and refurbishment of an existing unit to create the 15 bed en-suite rooms along with activity and social spaces designed to provide a calm and safe environment which has been innovatively designed to help people with dementia. The social spaces include enclosed external courtyards and garden spaces providing comfortable and dignified environments for relatives whilst visiting.

Rider Hunt scores a 100% pass rate in RICS Assessment of Professional Competence
Congratulations to Richard Mould (London), Lisa Latham and Stuart Taylor (Manchester) on their recent election as Professional Members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).
The success represents a 100% pass rate for Rider Hunt and demonstrates our firm commitment to structured learning and developing the necessary skills to ensure our people are the best they can be at what they do.
The Assessment of Professional Competence (Construction and Quantity Surveying Division) is a rigorous testing of knowledge, experience and ability held twice a year by the RICS, in centres around the country, where candidates have to demonstrate to assessors skilled in deciding if the individual meets the benchmark standard expected of a Chartered Surveyor. This follows a lengthy process of monitoring and mentoring by the firm and the submission of experience logs and reports for assessment by the individuals.
Station now off at-risk register
The restoration of a listed Tyneside railway station means it is off the English Heritage At-Risk register and has scooped an award.
The Tynemouth Station project took the heritage category of the Constructing Excellence Awards 2012.
Tynemouth Station beat off competition from entries which included Newcastle's Theatre Royal and Seaton Deleval Hall in Northumberland.
Judges liked the strong partnership approach, emphasis on community involvement, the training opportunities provided and the excellent record of health and safety throughout the 50-week restoration.
Tynemouth also had to remain as a working station for the Metro system, and its weekend markets were also able to continue throughout the project.
The 1882 station has been restored in conjunction with English Heritage and Rider Hunt acted as CDM Co-ordinator on behalf of Station Developments Limited.
The station will now be removed from the English Heritage At-Risk register and will provide a focus for arts and culture for the local community.

Rider Hunt completes Freeman Hospital's World Class Transplant Unit
A new £30m Institute of Transplantation at the Freeman Hospital boasting cutting edge resources is expected to become the epicentre of transplant procedures, drawing world class industry professionals to the region.
Rider Hunt has acted as external cost advisor to the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on the Institute at the Freeman Hospital, which has been delivered under the ProCure21 NHS National Framework.
The Institute, which took almost two years to complete, will house cardiothoracic transplant surgery, general transplant surgery and renal transplant surgery all in one place. It opened its doors to the public in September.

It also provides a world class facility for the region to be proud of.
“On a personal level, we have learned through this project there remains a concerning requirement for more organ donors in order for this facility to thrive. Our hope is that by having this incredible Institute on our doorstep, that it will encourage more individuals to register to become an organ donor. ”
Rider Hunt, having earned a national reputation as ProCure21 and ProCure 21+ experts, have acted as external cost advisors to NHS Trusts across the country on a number of healthcare projects ranging from half million pound projects up to those costing £80million. ProCure21 (now ProCure 21+) is a national procurement framework for capital investment schemes set out by the Department of Health for use by NHS clients, promoting best value, efficiency and partnership working.
Craig added: “Challenging time restrictions, evolving clinical needs and financial constraints within the NHS are constantly shifting, therefore, it is our responsibility to adapt our service to keep up with this. Being recognised for our knowledge of ProCure21 and our broad portfolio of experience has placed us as forerunners of healthcare development.”
The multi million-pound Institute, which covers 9,500 square meters over four levels, will bring a cutting edge medical service to the region. The centre offers an inpatient department with 30 beds, a 22-bed critical care ward, an outpatient department, four operating theatres, as well as a screening and imaging department, office accommodation and a lecture theatre.
The Trust’s project manager, Stephen Watts added: “The centralisation of our transplantation services, together with the state-of-the-art equipment available, will help drive the North East forward in being a centre of excellence for transplantation. “Staff and patients are very much looking forward to relocating into the Institute, which will be open to the public in September. We are delighted that Rider Hunt acted as our external cost advisor for this project. Once again they have ensured the project was completed within the guaranteed maximum price.”
Within their role as external cost advisor, Rider Hunt worked alongside the Trust, the design team and the appointed ProCure21 principal supply chain partner. Their duties on the project ranged from developing a target cost plan, agreeing the guaranteed maximum price, setting up contracts, issuing certificates for payment, regularly advising the Trust on the forecast cost to agreeing the final account and establishing the gain share pay back to the Trust.
